STEAM Play Preschool Co-op Set up forms sample

STEAM Play Preschool Co-op
The co-op was created as a supplemental activity for preschoolers to do art and gym activities, make friends, and have opportunities for field trips typically only available for larger groups. STEAM popularly stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. It is the latest push in education to prep kids for careers of the future and cultivate critical thinkers. In this co-op though it stands for Science, tactile, engineering, art, and movement to prep kids for successful handwriting and pave connections between subjects as they work on critical thinking and self expression.
Parents are key! We take turns teaching classes, helping learners/siblings stay on task, and coordinating field trips/ holiday parties. If the co-op is going to be successful it will require a high level of engagement during the short times we meet. Every parent will need to sign up for an equal amount of classes and support positions to fill the calendar. (The number of classes required will vary by the number of co-op members)
Classes are held Fridays from 10 am- 12pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (609 N. Forest Kenai, AK 99611) every week; though the location/ frequency may change after our first semester ending in December depending on the needs/ desires of the members.

We open with a poem and circle time activities (weather, season, month, day, announcements, etc.) Read a story (typically having something to do with the theme/lesson of the day) then the class activity (taught by one of the members) followed by a closing song or poem and free play.

Materials are bring your own, donate to the class when you teach, or pay as we go (just announce over Facebook the week before you teach what the materials will be or costs if it is an uncommon material or group buy)

There is a lot of creative freedom in planning your classes. You can choose science experiments and demonstrations, tactile experiences, engineering and critical thinking puzzles, arts and crafts, or movement/music activities. We encourage you to try different types of classes when you teach and to look at preschool skill goals when deciding on objectives for your lesson.  We will post ideas for classes on our Facebook page as well as some learning objectives to get you started. If you have a hard time coming up with a class feel free to ask for help/suggestions from the Admin.

Siblings are welcome and can participate as long as there is enough room/materials for preschoolers first and it is appropriate for their age. Parents are expected to help their children when needed.
